Day 1- 2010 National Competition
The WorldSkills Australia National Competition Brisbane 2010 was officially opened this morning, Friday 7th May.
The Opening commenced with an excellent Drum Line by St Joseph’s Nudgee College and was followed by a moving performance of the National Anthem by St John Fisher College Choir.
Celebrity Chef, David Pugh delivered a speech with the theme of ‘Careers in Trades’. Pugh’s speech was followed by an address by The Hon Minister Geoff Wilson, Minister for Education and Training. Minister Wilson officially opened the WorldSkills Australia National Competition Brisbane 2010 and proceeded into the competition site to watch Australia’s Best compete for Gold. Minister Wilson tried his hand at laying a brick at the Bricklaying Try’aTrade before heading to the Jewellery section to make a few nice pieces at the Jewellery Try’aTrade.
The competitors are all business, solely focused on the competition, their projects and achieving the best result possible. The competition halls are filled with a myriad of noises, sights and smells as competitors do battle with thousands of spectators looking on.
