2010 ACT Post School Options Expo

In early June the Interagency Transitions Committee hosted the 2010 ACT Post School Options Expo at the Centre for Teaching and Learning in Canberra. The Expo has been in operation for five years and provides an opportunity for students with disabilities, their parents and carers to obtain career and transition advice. Attendees at the Expo were exposed to over 50 exhibitors including 10 WorldSkills Australia Try’aTrade ‘hands on’ activities. The exhibitors came from a variety of industry, employment, education, training and disability service providers.

2010 is the second year that a WorldSkills Australia Try’aTrade event has been held as part of the Expo and it was very popular with the 600 students, parents and carers who attended. School groups attended the Expo in the morning providing an opportunity for them to participate in the ‘hands on’ experiences. These included horticulture, information technology, beauty care, automotive, hospitality and a variety of artistic pursuits. Attendees were also able to obtain valuable advice from qualified trainers and tradespeople. All the exhibitors involved in the Try’aTrade event offered training or employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
